Nella mattinata del 13 luglio ho assistito al sorgere della Luna sull'isola delle Femmine. Vi sono diverse leggende che narrano dell'isolotto e del suo nome. La leggenda più celebre narra che sulla torre dell'isolotto sorgesse in tempi antichi un carcere femminile. Un'altra versione racconta di tredici donne saracene che, macchiatesi di gravi colpe, furono abbandonate su una nave alla deriva e approdarono qui, dove vissero felicemente per molti anni.
Un altro racconto popolare descrive la torre come il luogo in cui il Conte di Capaci scelse di imprigionare la donna amata per sottrarla agli sguardi di chiunque altro, spingendola infine al suicidio per disperazione. Indipendentemente dalle leggende, vedere il falcetto lunare al 2,6% sorgere tinto di ross fuoco sull'isolotto e diventare sempre più brillante. Le condizioni di visibilità non erano eccellenti a causa della foschia ma in fin dei conti questa ha giocato a mio favore creando una atmosfera evanescente e sognante.

On the morning of 13 July, I watched the moon rise over Isola delle Femmine. There are several legends about the islet and its name. The most famous legend tells that, in ancient times, there was a women’s prison on the islet’s tower. Another version tells of thirteen Saracen women who, having committed serious crimes, were abandoned on a ship left to drift and washed ashore here, where they lived happily for many years.
Another folk tale describes the tower as the place where the Count of Capaci chose to imprison the woman he loved to keep her hidden from the gaze of anyone else, ultimately driving her to suicide out of despair. Regardless of the legends, watching the 2.6 per cent crescent moon rise, tinged with fiery red, over the islet and grow ever brighter was a sight to behold. Visibility wasn’t excellent due to the mist, but ultimately this worked in my favour, creating an ethereal and dreamlike atmosphere.
