Gli ultimi istanti dell’eclissi di Luna del 7 settembre hanno regalato uno spettacolo unico grazie alla presenza di sottili velature attorno al nostro satellite. La sequenza fotografica mostra da un lato il percorso della Luna mentre usciva progressivamente dal cono d’ombra terrestre, dall’altro sorprendenti giochi cromatici che non avevo mai osservato prima. Le nuvole, spinte dal vento, hanno assunto forme ondulate che a tratti ricordavano una lingua di fuoco. Nel loro movimento hanno interagito con la luce lunare generando delicate iridescenze, con sfumature che spaziavano dall’arancio al verde. Nessuna variazione cromatica è stata introdotta in fase di sviluppo: come da prassi nello star trail, il bilanciamento del bianco è rimasto costante. È stata dunque la prima volta che ho potuto assistere a un fenomeno così raro: l’iridescenza prodotta dalla luce particolare della Luna in eclissi, mentre riemergeva lentamente dall’ombra terrestre.

The final moments of the lunar eclipse on 7 September offered a unique spectacle thanks to the presence of thin veils around our satellite. The sequence of photographs shows, on the one hand, the path of the Moon as it gradually emerged from the Earth's shadow cone and, on the other, surprising colour effects that I had never observed before. The clouds, driven by the wind, took on wavy shapes that at times resembled a tongue of fire. As they moved, they interacted with the moonlight, generating delicate iridescence, with shades ranging from orange to green. No colour variations were introduced during development: as is standard practice in star trail photography, the white balance remained constant. It was therefore the first time I had witnessed such a rare phenomenon: the iridescence produced by the particular light of the eclipsed Moon as it slowly re-emerged from the Earth's shadow.
