Sickle Moon and Sgr A* Alignment Above Punta Cirica 2 - Sicily

Il 12 maggio 2022 l'Event Horizon Telescope ha mostrato la prima immagine del buco nero presente al centro della nostra galassia Sgr A*. Per ricordare questo ambito traguardo scientifico ho deciso di approfittare di una delle due occasioni in cui durante il 2023 la Luna si sarebbe allineata perfettamente al centro galattico. Nonostante il nostro satellite naturale avesse una magnitudine di 8,95 e una illuminazione del 22,5%, sono riuscito a catturare le tenui strutture della galassia. Lo scenario ideale questa volta è stato quello di Punta Cirica sulla quale sorgeva la Via Lattea insieme alla Luna a falcetto. L'immagine finale è una composizione pittorica che cerca di fondere le geometrie ellittiche e rettilinee con la bellezza naturale del cielo stellato. Mentre la baia cattura il riflesso della Luna, i frangiflutti invitano l'osservatore a proiettarsi verso le profondità del cosmo.

On May 12, 2022, the Event Horizon Telescope showed the first image of the black hole at the center of our galaxy Sgr A*. To commemorate this coveted scientific milestone, I decided to take advantage of one of the two occasions in which during 2023 the Moon would have aligned perfectly with the galactic center. Despite our natural satellite having a magnitude of 8.95 and an illumination of 22.5%, I was able to capture the subtle structures of the galaxy. The ideal scenario this time was that of Punta Cirica on which the Milky Way stood together with the sickle moon. The final image is a pictorial composition that seeks to blend elliptical and rectilinear geometries with the natural beauty of the starry sky. While the bay captures the reflection of the moon, the breakwaters invite the observer to project themselves into the depths of the cosmos.
