Anche quest'anno la notte delle stelle cadenti di Santa Lucia, anche dette Geminidi, non ha deluso. La presenza della Luna ha scoraggiato molti appassionati per via del fondo cielo molto luminoso dovuto all'illuminazione del disco lunare al 76%. Le uniche ore di buio completo erano disponibili solo nella tarda mattinata. Nonostante questo ho deciso di recarmi presso il sito di Pantalica (Patrimonio UNESCO dell'Umanità) per tentare comunque di riprendere le meteore e magari sfruttare a mio favore l'illuminazione notturna per evidenziare alcune caratteristiche della valle. L'immagine è stata ripresa sopra uno dei costoni della valle di Pantalica. In fondo, sotto la via Lattea, si scorge una delle pareti in cui sono scavate tantissime tombe a grotticelle testimonianza di una antica cultura siciliana del risalente al primo millennio avanti cristo. Il cielo è stato solcato da circa 30 meteore che hanno impreziosito la via lattea tra cui spicca la costellazione di Orione.

Despite this, I decided to go to the site of Pantalica (UNESCO World Heritage Site) to still try to capture the meteors and maybe take advantage of the night lighting in my favor to highlight some features of the valley. The image was taken on one of the ridges of the Pantalica valley. At the bottom, under the Milky Way, you can see one of the walls in which many cave tombs are excavated, testimony of an ancient Sicilian culture dating back to the first millennium BC. The sky was crossed by about 30 meteors that embellished the Milky Way, among which the constellation of Orion stands out..
