Moon Crossing the Blue Band & Venus Belt
We all know the beauty of the rising sun. However, the most curious of us paied attention to the magic that accompanies the birth of colors in the opposite point from which our star rises. During these moments we can observe the sky lighten and color with the first flashes of the day that begin to illuminate a band of sky just above the horizon pink. It takes the name of the belt of Venus under which we can still distinguish the Blue Band. This instead is the shadow that the Earth projects on the lower layers of the atmosphere. The closer we get to dawn, the more the Belt of Venus dips undermining the Blue Band and then disappears completely as the Sun appears on the horizon. During these brief moments, a small patch of purple sky serves as a transition area between the two bands. Filming the full Moon in the belt of Venus, or in the Blue Band, is a relatively easy task but it is much more difficult to film the passage of the Moon exactly in this boundary line. A further element of complication consists in photographing this alignment just above the horizon, enhancing the landscape. To succeed in the enterprise it is necessary for the full moon to set close to sunrise as happened on May 6, 2023 when the first one set at 6.02 (local time) while our star rose at 6.14, in an almost perfectly opposite direction. Thanks to this particular configuration it was possible to resume the "apparent" passage of the Moon from the Blue Band to the Belt of Venus. While the Moon was setting over the town of Petralia Soprana in Sicily, formerly a village among the villages of Italy, the Sun rose, changing the colors of the atmosphere which was the background (false perspective) of our satellite.
The photograph therefore shows the Moon in the Blue Band, the Moon between the Belt of Venus and the Blue Band and finally the Moon only in the Belt of Venus. Each shot was taken approximately 3 minutes apart.
