Fiery sunset on the top of Etna

Non solo di lava si accende l'Etna. Complice una serata limpida e la presenza di attività vulcanica sui crateri sommitali, sono riuscito a cogliere le molteplici sfumature del tramonto. Esse si tingono nel cielo riflettendosi sulle nuvole miste di acqua e polveri provenienti dalla cima del vulcano. Questa immagine è stata realizzata catturando il tramonto nell'arco di circa dieci minuti durante i quali la luce è passata dall'arancio tenue al rosa intenso. Nel frattempo, il sole è tramontato dietro l'orlo sud occidentale della valle del bove, proiettandone la sua ombra attraverso un marcato raggio crepuscolare. L'effetto finale ricorda una lingua di fuoco che adorna, colorandosi, la cima del cratere di sud est.

Not only does Etna light up with lava. Thanks to a clear evening and the presence of volcanic activity on the summit craters, I managed to capture the multiple shades of the sunset. They are tinged in the sky reflecting on the mixed clouds of water and dust coming from the top of the volcano. This image was made by capturing the sunset over the course of about ten minutes during which the light changed from soft orange to deep pink. In the meantime, the sun has set behind the southwestern edge of the Valle del Bove, casting its shadow through a strong twilight ray. The final effect is reminiscent of a tongue of fire which adorns the top of the southeast crater with colour.
