Beneath the Flower Moon: Etna’s Fiery Breath and the Watchful Ursa Major

Errando alle pendici dell’Etna, approfitto della luce della Luna piena di maggio — detta anche Luna dei fiori — per catturare questo straordinario spettacolo della natura.
Al Piano del Vescovo, il cratere di Sud-Est sembra innalzarsi sopra i boschi che avvolgono il vulcano. Appare distintamente grazie ai toni caldi della lava incandescente che si riversa lungo le sue pendici.
In alto, i gas dell’eruzione, sospinti dal vento, creano un velo bianco che spicca contro un cielo tinto d’azzurro.
E lì, quasi a contemplare l’eruzione, si estende in verticale una delle costellazioni più iconiche: l’Orsa Maggiore.

Wandering on the slopes of Etna, I take advantage of the light of the May full moon - also known as the flower moon - to capture this extraordinary spectacle of nature.
At Piano del Vescovo, the south-east crater seems to rise above the woods that envelop the volcano. It appears distinctly thanks to the warm tones of the incandescent lava pouring down its slopes.
Above, the gases of the eruption, blown by the wind, create a white veil that stands out against a sky tinged with blue.
And there, almost contemplating the eruption, stretches vertically one of the most iconic constellations: Ursa Major.
