Ashen Moon Trail With Regulus and Algieba Over Santa Tecla Tower - Sicily -Italy

From catania.italiani.it: "That of Santa Tecla is one of the many coastal towers in Sicily, testimony of a functioning defensive system developed between 1500 and 1600 by the Spanish rulers, first of all, the viceroy of Charles V, Ferdinando de Vega. These constructions rose not far from each other, and were perpetually in communication with each other. The main function of this sentry box was that of the watch towers and coastal defense against the raids of the Saracens. It was built around the sixteenth century, on a rock near the Scalo Pennisi, known as the Apa rock, using lava stones tied with mortar and fragments of tiles and shards...." Here the ashen Moon rose in constellation of Leo aligned with Regulus, Eta Leonis and Algieba.

"Quella di Santa Tecla è una delle tante torri costiere presenti in Sicilia, testimonianza di un funzionante sistema difensivo messo a punto fra 1500 e 1600 dai dominatori spagnoli, primo fra tutti, il vicerè di Carlo V, Ferdinando de Vega. Queste costruzioni sorgevano a poca distanza l’una dall’altra, ed erano perennemente in comunicazione fra di loro. La funzione principale di questa garitta era quella propria delle torri di avvistamento e di difesa costiera contro le scorribande dei saraceni. Venne costruita attorno al XVI secolo, su di uno scoglio presso lo Scalo Pennisi, conosciuto come scoglio dell’Apa, ricorrendo a pietrame lavico legato con malta e frammenti di tegole e cocci...."
