From internet: "The first news regarding the Arab-Norman castle of Castellammare del Golfo are reported by the Arab geographer Idrisi in his "Book of King Roger", dating back to 1154. He reports that "No castle is stronger than site nor better for construction than this here [...] ». The construction of the castle is attributed to the Arabs who built it, around the tenth century, on the ruins of pre-existing fortifications. The castle was built on a rocky outcrop near the sea, connected to the mainland by a drawbridge. Enlarged by the Normans, it then became an important fortress of the Suevians who surrounded it with walls and built towers there." In this image, the castle was photographed together with the moon rising from behind its defensive towers and together with part of the historic center of Castellammare and its tourist port where the street lights are reflected.

Da internet: "Le prime notizie riguardanti il castello arabo-normanno di Castellammare del Golfo sono riferite dal geografo arabo Idrisi nel suo "Libro di Re Ruggero", risalente al 1154. Egli riferisce che «Nessun castello è più forte di sito né meglio per la costruzione che questo qui [...]». La costruzione del castello si attribuisce agli Arabi che lo eressero, intorno al X secolo, sulle rovine di preesistenti fortificazioni. Il castello venne edificato su uno sperone roccioso prossimo al mare, collegato alla terraferma tramite un ponte levatoio. Ampliato dai Normanni, divenne poi un'importante fortezza degli Svevi che lo cinsero di mura e vi innalzarono delle torri."
